Occupy Anniversary!

Occupride/Community Not Commodity to Hold Direct Action in the Castro September 17, 2012.

In celebration of the Occupy Wall Street Movement’s one-year anniversary, Occupride/Community Not Commodity – a coalition of grassroots LGBT and allied groups which this year broke into the pride parade to protest the commercialization and commodification of our movementwill hold a rally and direct action in the Castro District of San Francisco, Monday, September 17 at 2pm, on the corner of 18th & Castro.

We have united to confront the 1% in our community. We honor our radical roots in our fight for full liberation for all of us. We are diverse, we are joined together in struggle – we are the 99%!

We have united to confront institutions that negatively impact our communities through eviction of seniors and people with HIV/AIDS and through implementation of policies that criminalize the homeless within our community. Three recent reports indicate that 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT as large banks and real estate brokers continue harsh eviction processes aimed at the LGBT and allied communities. Together we demand an end to evictions and the criminalization of homelessness.

On Monday, September 17, 2012 at 2pm, we will rally at 18th and Castro. Following our rally, we will march to demand an end to tenant evictions and the criminalization of homelessness through Sit/Lie. This action has been endorsed by Act Up San Francisco, members of QUIT (Queers Undermining Israeli Terrorism), The San Francisco Tenant’s Union, Occupy SF Housing coalition, QUEEN (Queers for Economic Equality Now), the Occupy Action Council of San Francisco and the Occupy San Francisco Direct Action working group.

All are invited to participate.
